The Importance of Setting and How to Nail It |
|
Establishing the setting of your novel or short story can be much more than when and where the action takes place. Attention to this literary element can elevate your good story into a great one. Setting can rope your reader in, create mood, support a theme, expose readers to a new place, limit suspects – even impede an investigation. (Oh my!) Learn how to use setting to its full potential during this hands-on workshop. |
Sara E. Johnson spent nine months exploring wondrous New Zealand. Everywhere she snooped, there was a mystery that needed writing. The Hungry Bones, Sara’s fifth novel in the Alexa Glock Forensic Mysteries, comes out in June from Poisoned Pen Press/Sourcebooks. Sara also writes articles for magazines. Most recently, she introduced readers of The Strand magazine to five New Zealand-based mystery writers. Shark cage diving, featured in her second book The Bones Remember, is the topic of her article in CrimeReads. Sara is a graduate of the Durham Citizen Police Academy and the past president of Triangle Sisters in Crime.
